“Read,
read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see
how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and
studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's good,
you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the
window.” - William Faulkner
WELCOME
Welcome to the website of
James Gregory
Catledge, author, outdoorsman, amateur photographer, graphic
artist, and information technologist.
After
a rewarding career in information technology, I took the opportunity to pursue a
long-held desire to spend more time writing. So far I have completed a
memoir of my youth, 28 Dog Years, and a volume detailing some of my
adventures
over a lifetime of trekking around North American and even into South
America, Put On Your Boots and Go, both of which I have self-published.
I have also finished two novels set in the same fictional Delta hamlet of New Bethel, Mississippi. Although Beside Still Waters and Celester and the Captain are set
60 years apart, they are joined by themes of justice and revenge as
well as several characters and descendents of characters. I am currently
seeking representation and a publisher.
Two more novels are also in the works: A third installment in the New Bethel saga, Felicia and the Mayor
and a novelized (and somewhat fictionalized) account of my grandparents
establishing themselves as cotton planters in the Delta during the
1920's and 1930's. It is titled Into the Delta.
On these
pages you will find information about me, how to purchase my books, and
examples of my writing and my photography.
